Many companies have found geo-location or geo-targeting technology to be of value in Internet advertising. Pay-per-click search engines like Google and Yahoo offer the ability for advertisers to deliver targeted advertising banners based on the location of the website visitor’s IP address.
For marketers, geocoding is critical in targeting specific demographics. Appending demographic census track data to latitude and longitude coordinates helps marketers target the right demographics – those who would be most likely to respond to their offer or marketing message.
Insurance companies are relying increasingly on geocoding techniques to help set premiums and make underwriting decisions based on the physical location of the insured property. Take Hurricane Katrina and storm-surge damage, for example. Most insurance carriers have their own set of rules and criteria when it comes to underwriting, such as property elevation and determining the distance of the property from/to the coast. Such an imprecise standard may leave carriers insuring properties that may not be situated in a flood zone, but are actually in a storm-surge zone – where the flood exclusions in their policies would not apply.

Laboratuvar ve Akademik Çalışma Ekibi Başkanı Prof. Dr. Ünal Altınbaş, pamuk rekoltesinin her geçen yıl azaldığının uydu görüntüleri ile belirlendiğini söyledi.
Ege Üniversitesi (EÜ) Ziraat Fakültesi Uzaktan Algılama ve Coğrafi Bilgi Sistemi EBİLTEM Uydu Laboratuvarı aracılığıyla Batı Anadolu Bölgesi’ndeki pamuk ekili alanların ve yıllık ürün rekoltesinin Landsatve Spot uydu görüntüleri ile tespit edildiği bildirildi.EÜ’den yapılan açıklamaya göre, 1995 yılından beri yürütülen çalışmalar sayesinde Ege Bölgesi toprak çeşitleri ile bitki desenlerinin dağılım alanlarının haritası belirleniyor. Laboratuvar ve Akademik Çalışma Ekibi Başkanı Prof. Dr. Ünal Altınbaş, yıllar süren çalışmalarla her yıl pamuk ekili alanların daraldığı ve bu bağlamda da pamuk rekoltesinin her geçen yıl azaldığı değişik uydu görüntüleri ile ortaya konulduğunu belirtti.

ABD’nin, İsrail’e uzun menzilli radar yerleştirdiği açıklandı.
Amaç İran’dan gelebilecek bir saldırıya karşı erken uyarı sistemi oluşturmak.
Necef Çölü’ne yerleştirildiği bildirilen radarı işletmek üzere bölgeye 120 Amerikalı asker de konuşlandırıldı.
İsrailli kaynaklara göre böylece ABD ülkede ilk kez sürekli personel bulundurmaya başladı.
İsrail, İran’ın nükleer programını vurabileceğini söylüyor; buna karşılık İran da böyle bir saldırı olursa Tel Aviv’i ateşe vereceğini belirtiyor.

Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Kadir Topbaş, Yenikapı İstanbul Deniz Otobüsleri (İDO) İskelesi’nde düzenlenen törende yaptığı konuşmada, İstanbul’da yangınların önceleri yeniçeriler tarafından söndürüldüğünü, 1714 yılında ise ilk itfaiye teşkilatının kurulduğunu, 294 yıllık geçmişiyle itfaiye teşkilatının dünyanın en eski itfaiyelerinden biri olduğunu belirtti.
İstanbul’da itfaiyenin günde çeşitli büyüklüklerde yaklaşık 200 yangına müdahale ettiğini belirten Topbaş, bu yangınların zararlarının önlenebilmesi için teçhizat, araç ve gereçlerin buna göre düzenlenmesi gerektiğini vurguladı.
Kentte maddi manevi zararlar oluşturan yangınlara müdahale için yeni istasyonlar oluşturmak, personel ve ekipmanların tamamlanması gibi birtakım önlemler aldıklarını anlatan Topbaş, yasa değişikliğiyle sorumluluklarındaki bölgenin tüm il sınırlarını kapsadığını ifade etti.

Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi 292 mahallede 180 bin 990 haneye daha iyi hizmet verebilmek ve sosyal yapının belirlenmesi için vatandaşlara ulaştı. Hazırlanan ‘sosyal doku haritası’ ile bir ilke daha imza attıklarını belirten Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Tahir Akyürek, amaçlarının istismarı önlemek olduğunu vurguladı.
Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi, il genelinde oluşturduğu Sosyal Doku Haritası ile Türkiye’de bir ilke daha imza attı. Şehir merkezinde 292 mahallede 180 bin 990 haneye anketle ulaşan belediye, daha iyi hizmet vermek, sosyal yapının belirlenmesi, şehrin geleceğine yön verilmesi ve gerçek ihtiyaç sahiplerinin tespit edilmesi için Konya Sosyal Veri Merkezi oluşturdu.
Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Başkanı Tahir Akyürek, Sosyal Belediyecilik alanında yaptıkları çalışmalarla Türkiye’ye örnek olduklarını hatırlatarak, kurulan Sosyal Veri Merkezi sayesinde Konya genelinde insanların ihtiyaç durumları, gelir dağılımları, hanedeki özürlü ve hasta sayıları ile ekonomik desteğe ihtiyaçları olup olmadığının tespit edildiğini söyledi.

For a vast country which lacks adequately detailed maps for many of its areas, India is now finding an unexpected solution in the form of the Google Map Maker.
Google recently extended its ‘map maker’ service to India and has, within three weeks of its launch, drawn quite some attention to it in cyberspace.
Supporters of the project started sending messages out via the net, urging friends and colleagues to create their own detailed maps — by adding details of features in the villages or urban areas where they live.
Google Map Maker is a new service from the Mountain View, California-based Internet search giant. It is an attempt to expand the service currently offered by Google Maps.

Bağdat’taki şiddet olaylarının azalmasında, Şii milislerin Sünni Arap mahallelerinde yaptığı etnik temizliğin rol oynadığı uydu fotoğraflarıyla kanıtlandı. ABD Yönetimi, 2007 yılında Irak’a daha fazla asker göndererek mezhepler arası çatışmayı durdurduğunu iddia ediyordu.
AMERİKALI bilimadamlarının analiz ettiği uydu fotoğrafları, Irak’ta şiddetin, ABD’nin asker artırımının değil, etnik temizlikler yüzünden demografinin değişmesinin bir sonucu olduğunu ortaya koydu.
Sonuçları “Environment and Planning A” adlı literatür dergisinden yayımlanan araştırmada, ABD Hava Kuvvetleri’ne ait bir meteoroloji uydusundan alınan kızılötesi gece fotoğrafları tahlil edildi. Bilimadamları, 2003-2007 yılları arasında Bağdat’ın gece havadan nasıl göründüğünü inceledi. Evlerdeki ışıklara bakıldığında, işgalin başladığı 2003 ile 2006 yılı arasında Bağdat’ın genel ışık miktarının arttığı görüldü. Ancak Şiilere ait Samarra camisinin bombalandığı 2006’nın şubat ayından itibaren mezhep çatışmaları artarken, ışıklar da yavaş yavaş sönmeye başladı. Kararma süreci, 2007 yılının aralık ayına dek sürdü.
