The Toronto-based mapping software company said that more organizations today are integrating GIS technology into their internal and customer-facing applications. For example, delivery and transportation companies can overlay road and destination data on a custom mapping app, while a restaurant chain might integrate their store location data onto a Web-based mapping service for their customers.
One criticism of online mapping services, such as those offered by Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp., is that the services offer users accurate location-based maps, but fail to provide land usage information and building details.
Alex Miller, president at ESRI Canada, said that designing a GIS-powered mapping app for in-house or external use allows companies and governments to take advantage of the data they already own.
“The organizations that have thought it through have streamlined their back-end operations,” he said. “GIS is an enterprise system. In fact, it goes beyond enterprise because it reaches out to other organizations that may have tracked data of interest.”
The organizations that aren’t doing GIS-related apps well tend to be siloed internally and experience similar problems building any type of corporate system, Miller added.

Apple, online harita şirketi Poly9’u satın alıyor. İnternet tabanlı harita servisleri ve yazılımları alanında iş yapan firma Microsoft ve Yahoo’nun da aralarında bulunduğu pek çok şirketle birlikte çalışıyor. Anlaşmanın detayları henüz açıklanmadı. Apple’ın bu satın almadaki niyeti de…
Ama tahmin etmek pek de güç olmasa gerek. Google’ın “Maps” adlı uygulamasının popülaritesi, Microsoft ve Yahoo’nun bu alana yüklenmesi ve Appleın iPhone, iPad gibi cihazlarda bu tip içeriğe ihtiyaç duyması. Bekleyip göreceğiz. Apple iyi iş yaptı mı?

Sağlık Bakanlığı Temel Sağlık Hizmetleri Genel Müdürlüğü Beslenme ve Fiziksel Aktivite Daire Başkanlığı tarafından Türkiye’de besin, beslenme ve sağlık politikalarının oluşturulması için gerekli verilerin temini amacıyla ‘Türkiye Beslenme ve Sağlık Araştırması’ uygulamasında son bir haftaya girildi.
Zonguldak’ta İl Sağlık Müdürlüğü Eğitim Şubesi Koordinatörlüğünde hekim, diyetisyen, gıda mühendisi, tıbbi teknolog, eğitim hemşiresi, ebe, laboratuar teknisyeni ve sekreterden oluşan ekipler tarafından uygulama sürdürülüyor. Zonguldak ilçe ve köylerinde uygulamanın tamamlandığını dikkat çeken İl Sağlık Müdürü Dr. Murat İlikhan, “Türkiye Beslenme ve Sağlık Araştırması (TBSA) için ilimizde 7 Haziran 2010 tarihinden başlamış olan saha çalışmasında ilçelerimiz ve köylerimizde yapılan çalışmalar başarıyla bitirilmiştir. Müdürlüğümüz Eğitim Şubesi Koordinatörlüğü’nde yapılan çalışmada Karadeniz Ereğli Merkez, Uzun Mehmet Mahallesi, Yazıcılar, Aziz Beyler, Ortaköy ve Burgucular Mahalleleri, Alaplı ilçesinde Çatak Muratlı ve Eteklioğlu Mahalleleri, Devrek ilçemizde Merkez Karşıyaka Mahallesi, Ataköy Söbelekler, Mestanoğlu, Hocaoğlu, Kozlu Merkez Mahallelerinde hedeflenen zamanda hedeflenen nüfus ulaşmış bulunmaktayız. SuperGeo Technologies was invited to ‘Geographic Information System and Land Management’ Seminar held by International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training (ICLPST). The seminar is authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan, for the attendees from more than 20 countries.
During the presentation, SuperGeo team firstly highlighted the research and development conditions of SuperGIS software products, all of which are self-developed by SuperGeo R&D team. The global expansion of SuperGeo reseller network is also mentioned for the audience, who are from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Middle East and Africa.
The purpose of the seminar is to introduce how GIS technologies can be applied to land management. Therefore, SuperGeo team introduced several success stories and applications in this domain.
Since the attendees are mainly researchers and representatives from land management or GIS related government agencies, they are very impressed by SuperGIS software regarding its functions, capabilities, and price advantages. Many of the attendees are already in touch with SuperGeo for further cooperation opportunities.

Bu yılın başında tüm donanım ve yazılımlarını en ileri IT teknolojileri ile yenileyen İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi İZSU Genel Müdürlüğü, şimdi de verileri tek bir kaynakta toplayarak yine tek bir kaynaktan erişimini sağlayacak.
Böylece kaynağından arıtma tesisi çıkışına kadar suyun tüm yolculuğu, saniye saniye izlenirken, su kesintilerinin yaşandığı binalar bile İZSU web sitesinden görülebilecek.
İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi, arka arkaya işletime aldığı sistemlerle Türkiye’de e-belediyecilik uygulamalarına örnek oluyor. Hem kaynak hem de zamandan tasarruf sağlayarak bilgiye anında ve doğru ulaşılmasını sağlayacak İzmir Kent Bilgi Sistemleri, Coğrafi Adres Bilgi Sistemi, İzmir 3 Boyutlu Kent Rehberi, Bilgi Teknolojileri Merkezi ve İzmir NET projesi gibi bilişim teknolojileri alanında önemli atılımlar yapan İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi, e- belediyecilik halkasını İZSU Genel Müdürlüğü ile genişletiyor.
Kendi bünyesinde “Coğrafi Altyapı Bilgi Sistemi” kurma hazırlıkları başlatan İZSU, öncelikle yetki alanında kalan 5 bin kilometrelik yol ağındaki su ve kanalizasyon hatları gibi alt yapı ile arıtma tesisi, depo, pompa gibi üst yapı tesislerini sisteme girecek. 544 bin hektarlık alanda hizmet veren kurumun yetki alanı içindeki diğer alt yapı tesisleri de sisteme dahil edilecek.
Coğrafi Altyapı Bilgi sistemi ile tüm veriler tek bir kaynakta toplanacak ve yine tek bir kaynaktan erişimi sağlanacak. Kurum içi bilgi alışverişi kolaylaşacak. Böylelikle veri tekrarları ve veriye ulaşım sorunları çözülerek imalat ve işletmede hızlı ve kaliteli hizmet sağlanacak. Su üretiminin kaynağından aboneye kadar gelişi, aboneden atıksu olarak çıkışı, arıtma tesisinden deniz deşarjına kadar izlenmesi sağlanacak.

In the late 1960s, there was a growing environmental awareness in the United States and some other parts of the world. Unfortunately, this increased awareness was largely due to environmental disasters, such as when the Cuyahoga River caught fire in Cleveland. Around the same time, Stewart Brand of Whole Earth Catalog fame was among those lobbying NASA to release the first photograph of earth taken from space. He knew that viewing that image would have a monumental impact on society by letting us actually see our planet in context for the first time. That photograph was eventually released, and I think it fundamentally changed the way we viewed our environment and our relationship with it. 1969 also saw passage of the National Environmental Policy Act in the United States-a landmark step in environmental protection. So it was a time of a lot of change, when a lot of people’s attitudes were changing; when people really started to “wake up” and “get real” about the damage we were doing to our environment.
Many people as part of this movement wanted to “save the world.” Well, it wasn’t as much about saving the planet as saving or protecting the aspects of the environment that were critical to the survival of the human race. It was a realization that each decision we make concerning the use of our natural and cultural resources has a profound effect on the future. Rational management and planning of our resources requires a certain investment in information. Concern for the future of the environment society as we know it, and the belief that better information makes for better decisions, lead us to create ESRI.

Yaz gecelerinin korkulu rüyası olan sivrisineklere adrese dayalı mücadele yöntemi geliştirildi.
İstanbul’da tespit edilen 69 bin larva üreme kaynağını haritaya işleyen İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi (İBB) Çevre Koruma Daire Başkanlığı ilaçlama ekipleri, sineklerle koordinatlar üzerinden mücadeleye başladı. İlaçlama ekipleri, Bilgi İşlem Müdürlüğü Ortak Veri Ambarı (SOA) uygulaması ile İstanbul genelinde sineklerin üreme noktaları, ulusal koordinat sisteminde üreme kaynağının türü, özelliği ve adresleri tespit edilerek sivrisinek haritası çıkartıldı.
Haritaya göre üreme merkezleri en fazla göl ve barajların olduğu bölgelerde bulunuyor. Ekipler, en yoğun mücadelesini Küçükçekmece ve Büyükçekmece gölleri çevresinde veriyor. İlçe sınırlarının geniş ve sulak araziye sahip olması sebebiyle larva üreme noktası en fazla 6.943 merkezle Arnavutköy’de bulunuyor. Bu ilçeyi 6.694 noktayla Pendik, 3.162 ile Kartal ve 2.063 ile Büyükçekmece izliyor.
