Turkcell, abonelerine, bulundukları yere ilişkin bilgileri ileten “Neredeyim” hizmetinin çalışmalarını tamamladı.
Turkcell’den yapılan yazılı açıklamada, “NEREDEYIM” yazıp 7777’ye gönderen Turkcell müşterilerine kısa mesajla, yaklaşık olarak bulundukları yerin adres bilgisi, coğrafi koordinatları, en yakın yerleşim veya hizmet noktasına kuş uçuşu yaklaşık uzaklığı ve ilgili hizmet noktasının telefon bilgisi ile polis, jandarma ve acil hizmetler telefonlarının anında iletileceği kaydedildi.
Turkcell abonelerinin, dilediklerinde bu bilgiyi başka kişilerle paylaşabilecekleri ifade edilen açıklamaya göre, abonenin bilgilerini paylaştığı kişi ya da kurum, herhangi bir harita sistemine bu bilgiyi girdiğinde mesajı ileten abonenin yerini harita üzerinden görebiliyor.
Verilen bilgiye göre Turkcell aboneleri, bu hizmetten sorgulama başına 4 kontöre faydalanabilecekler.

Addressing keen taxpayer interest in how federal stimulus dollars will be spent, Gov. Martin O’Malley launched a Web site yesterday that uses high-tech mapping systems to show where the money will go in Maryland.
The state expects $3.7 billion from the stimulus package signed last week by President Barack Obama, including $1.6 billion for health and human services, $1.1 billion for education and $610 million for transportation projects. The Web site, http://www.recovery.maryland.gov, uses geographic information system technology and allows users to enter a home address to see how their communities benefit.
The program builds on StateStat, a computerized performance management system that monitors state agencies to identify where to achieve savings and better results, and GreenPrint, a computerized map of the state’s environmentally valuable lands.
“I know there’s not another state that’s where we are with this,” O’Malley said, taking an audience through a presentation of the new Web site’s capabilities on a large screen in the conference room where he holds StateStat meetings. “To borrow a line from President Obama, we don’t do ourselves any favors by hiding what we spend.” (more…)

The kit can be ordered with a GMS-2 Pro and choice of software to create a complete GIS high accuracy system.

Malatya İl Özel İdaresi, ilçe ve köylerdeki araçlarını uydudan izleme için ihale yaptı.
Malatya İl Özel İdaresi Genel Sekreteri Sami Er, yaptığı açıklamada, İl Özel İdaresi’nin araçlarına çip takacaklarını ifade ederek, çip sayesinde ilçe ve köylerdeki araçların uydudan izleneceğini ifade etti. Araçlara takacakları çip ile araçların nerede ne yapıklarını izleyeceklerini söyleyen Sami Er, ayrıca kiraladıkları iş makinelerini de böylece izleme imkanları doğacağını vurguladı.
“Özellikle çoğu zaman iş makinesi kiralıyoruz. Bu iş makinesinin bizim işimizin dışında ya da iş programı dışındaki özel bir işte çalıştırılmamasını da bu sistemle takip edeceğiz” diyen Er, “Uydudan bütün araçların hareketini göreceğiz. İş makinesi başka yere gittiğinde sorgulayacağız. Böylece hem yakıt tüketimimiz azalacak hem de iş disiplinimiz olacak. Bunu kendi makinelerimize de kiralık araçlara da takacağız’ ‘şeklinde konuştu.
Er, çip sisteminin ihalesini de yaptıklarını ve önümüzdeki günlerde uygulamaya geçeceklerini kaydetti.

Officials in Topeka, Kan. want septic tanks gone, so they use GIS maps to locate households capable of switching to the municipal sewer system. The project has been ongoing since the city passed an ordinance in 1997 mandating that homes close to the sewer system remove their septic tanks, said Kyle Tjelmeland, GIS system analyst for Topeka.
“It becomes a revenue stream for the city,” said Tjelmeland. Citizens pay the city more than $1,000 to hook up to the municipal sewer system.
To locate prospects for conversion to the sewer, Topeka’s GIS staff crafted a map with layers showing houses near the sewer system that receive water service but no sewer service.
“If they’re paying a water bill, but they’re not paying a sewer bill, there’s a good chance they’re using a septic system. Either that, or they’re connected to the sewer system illegally,” said Tjelmeland.
Septic Tanks Can Pollute
A septic tank receives all of a building’s sewage, dissolves the solids, cleans the water and releases it into the ground. Built up solids are pumped out of a tank roughly every five years. One benefit of a septic tank is that it spares from the cost of paying for sewer service. The process is harmless to the environment until the tank starts malfunctioning — sometimes when the tank has been in the ground 60 years or more, explained Tjelmeland. (more…)

Mapping California Communities will be the focus of beginner-level workshops offered throughout March in several California cities to teach the fundamentals of using GIS and Census data for community analysis. Presented by New Urban Research Inc. the workshop is designed for social service providers, academic researchers, urban planners and anyone who performs community demographic analysis for governmental or private organizations.
Each workshop is one day and costs $495 per person. No previous GIS experience is necessary. Information and registration are available at http://www.urban-research.info.
“Any organization that seeks federal funding to perform public health, economic or educational development is required to provide demographic analysis on populations within specific geographic areas,” said Gina Clemmer, President of New Urban Research. “We teach students how to access Census data files online and then use the GIS to extract specific demographic information and map the results down to the neighborhood level.”
New Urban Research, a professional social research organization, customizes the GIS exercises and demonstrations in each class with geographic and mapping data relating to the state where the workshop is being held. During the class, participants will be shown how to download Census data relating to poverty, race, language, education and other variables for their communities and integrate these files with their own data sets for analysis in the GIS. Çevre ve Orman Bakanı Veysel Eroğlu, orman yangınlarına müdahaleyi yaklaşık bir saatten, 15 dakikaya kadar indirdiklerini söyledi.
Bakan Eroğlu, çeşitli ziyaretlerde bulunmak üzere geldiği Edirne’de Vali Mustafa Büyük’ü makamında ziyaret etti.
Eroğlu, burada yaptığı konuşmada, AK Parti hükümetinin, Türkiye’nin her noktasında hizmetlerini devam ettirdiğini belirterek, şunları kaydetti:
”Hükümetimiz, Edirne’den 2 topluyorsa, 3 olarak yatırım sağlıyor. Toplam 600 trilyon yatırım yapıldı. Edirne’de en büyük hizmetkarı bakanlığımız olduğu için bu benim için büyük bir şeref. Milletvekili olduğum Afyonkarahisar’ın 5 katı hizmet Edirne’ye yapılmış. Hükümetimizin tüm Türkiye’de olduğu gibi Edirne’de de büyük hizmetleri oluyor, bu devam edecek.”
Daha sonra soruları cevaplayan Bakan Eroğlu, bir gazetecinin, ”orman yangınlarıyla ilgili alınan önlemler nelerdir?” sorusu üzerine şu cevabı verdi:
”2007 yılında dünyada nem miktarının az, sıcaklığın yüksek olmasına bağlı olarak büyük yangınlara sahne oldu. Geçen yıl Yunanistan, Amerika ve Avustralya’daki yangınları biliyoruz. Bunlara oranla Türkiye’deki yangınlar daha düşük. Buna rağmen küçük bir alan bile yanmış olsa bizim yüreğimiz yanıyor. Ciğerlerimiz parçalanıyor. Dolayısıyla geçen yıl ekiplerimizde iyileştirilmelere gittik. Bin tane modern yangın söndürme aracımız, gerecimiz var. Bütün ekiplerimizi eğittik ayrıca modern teçhizatlar aldık.”

Yalova’da Maden Tetkik Arama Enstitüsü ve Yalova Belediyesi tarafından yaptırılan jeolojik etüt çalışmaları sonrası 3 noktada yeni termal su kaynakları bulundu.
Yalova Belediye Başkanı Barbaros Binicioğlu, kentte jeotermal enerji çalışmalarına başladıklarını ve yaptıkları jeolojik etütler sonrası yerin yaklaşık 350 metre derinliğinde yeni sıcak su kaynakları bulduklarını bildirdi. Termal ilçesine bağlı Akköy’de yapılan sondaj çalışmaları hakkında gazetecilere bilgi veren Binicioğlu, jeotermal enerjinin yenilenebilir, sürdürülebilir, tükenmez, ucuz, güvenilir, çevre dostu olma özelliğini taşıdığını belirterek şöyle konuştu:
“Yalova Belediyesi tarafından çalışmaları sürdürülen sondaj kapsamında bu mevkide 350 metre derinliğinde kuyu açılacak. Bu çalışmalar sonunda termal su Yalova’ya taşınacak. Termal sağlık ve turizm merkezleri, kür merkezleri ve termal su entegreli 5 yıldızlı oteller yapılması planlanan bu çalışmalarla hem sağlık turizmi geliştirilecek, hem de istihdam sağlanmış olacak” dedi.

Buried treasure? No, this time it’s a lost city which has found its way into Google Earth.
Atlantis – a legendary island which Plato had described sinking into the ocean “in a single day and night of misfortune” around 9000 BC – was recently claimed to have been found of Google Earth. A UK-based aeronautical engineer Bernie Bamford had claimed to The Sun that he had seen a grid of lines undersea off the coast of West Africa, a location which experts believe where Atlantis had sunk.
But Google has denied saying that the lines represented sonar data collected from boats.
According to a Google statement, “It’s true that many amazing discoveries have been made in Google Earth including a pristine forest in Mozambique that is home to previously unknown species and the remains of an Ancient Roman villa.”
“In this case, however, what users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process. Bathymetric (or sea floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor.”

Few technology products have transformed how people think about the world quite like Google Earth and its bird’s-eye views.
However, for anyone who earns a living using geospatial mapping tools, the real transformation has been in the ability of organizations to build their own private globes. That ability gained significant ground last October with the release of Google Earth Enterprise 3.1. It allows organizations to feed geographic information from various sources into their own geospatial database rather than maintain terabytes of copied data, which dramatically frees resources.
The Feb. 2 release of Google Earth 5.0 has attracted a lot of attention for its newest feature, named Ocean. Using data and imagery from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other sources, Google Earth now provides visual undersea details that previously were available only for terrestrial surfaces (GCN.com/1302).
Two other new Google Earth features have caught the eyes of geospatial specialists, including Chris Johnson. Johnson is best known for helping develop Virtual Alabama, which has drawn national praise for giving Alabama’s Department of Homeland Security a powerful, yet highly affordable, way to visualize the state’s physical assets and emergency resources.
One of 5.0’s new features is the ability to pack multiple images into a slice of geography. Previous versions of Google Earth could deliver only the most recent image for a given location. Now, historical images that span decades can be pulled into view. (more…)
