In Lewiston, new technology is giving the public greater access to information about crimes in their community.
The police department there recently went online with a new computer software program that shows where and when crimes were committed using a map of the city. Lewiston is the first department in Maine to use the system. By opening up that information to residents in an easy to use system, Lewiston police are hoping to have more eyes and ears on the streets helping them solve crimes.
“We hope that people will look at it and call in to say, we saw a suspicious vehicle on our street a week ago and just noticed there was a rash of motor vehicle burglaries that occurred in our area, so the more information we get from the public, the easier it is for us to do our jobs”, said Andrew Robitaille Lewiston Police Crime Analyst
