Rehoboth Beach’s director of information technology says new computer tools are helping the town track vehicles and look at local properties.
David Henderson says a Graphical Information System maps out city property parcel by parcel and can keep up with police cars, dump trucks, new fire hydrants or water lines. He says that’s particularly helpful during emergencies when officials need to stay organized and pinpoint locations affected by the crisis.
Public documents about properties will also be stored in the system for zoning and land use purposes. Henderson says GIS will save time because employees can find needed documents without printing or interrupting a co-worker.
He says the state is considering creating a statewide GIS system.
