Vancouver Island University is now accepting applications for the Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications (ADGISA).
Students interested in the online option are encouraged to apply immediately for the January 2009 online intake; those interested in the September 2009 face-to-face option are also advised to submit their applications early, as openings are limited.
VIU’s post-graduate program in GIS applications enables students to strengthen their theoretical knowledge of GIS and, at the same time, develop and hone their skills in using ArcGIS, ArcSDE, ArcIMS, ArcEngine, and ArcObjects. Topics covered include: geodatabases, spatial analysis, GPS, remote sensing, GIS programming, web map development, and project management. Both options emphasize the use of GIS as a tool in addressing or resolving real-world issues or problems. The face-to-face option includes a work-placement practicum; the online option is completely course-based. Over 94% of graduates from the ADGISA program have successfully secured employment in the field of GIS within 4 months of completing the program.

The Advanced Diploma in GIS Applications provides skills training in geographic information systems (GIS) to university and college graduates who wish to strengthen their employment opportunities in GIS applications – an area that is in high demand around the world.
Students have the option of taking the ADGISA Program either face-to-face or online. The face-to-face is an intensive, 8 month program where students have the opportunity to interact with instructors and colleagues in a classroom setting and engage in a work-study practicum. The online version extends over a 16 month period and has been designed for those unable to relocate to Nanaimo, British Columbia for the face-to-face option. ADGISA Face-To-Face begins in September and ADGISA Online begins in January.
