Finding various locations on the Northern Illinois University campus and the DeKalb-Sycamore area has become more convenient. Officials from the NIU Geography Department recently updated the campus’s Web map. The map now includes an aerial photo of areas around campus, DeKalb and sections of Sycamore. Some of the locations that have been added to the map include Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Target and Wal-Mart.
“We’re taking highly-detailed aerial images that are a half-point resolution and, basically, putting it into a GIS system. So, basically, it has ground truth,” Phil Young, NIU research scientist, said. “Anyplace we measure on this aerial photo will give us accurate ground truth, and it adjusts for angle tilts of a plain as well as any elevation change. So it’s a highly-detailed photo.”
The map system also lists the locations of printers, vending machines and dining facilities on campus, and which businesses in the area accept Huskie Bucks.
“This is mainly based on NIU facilities, but since Huskie Bucks are tied into the local community, we felt it was important to also show everything off campus,” Young said. “So one of the tabs in the search parameter shows all the Huskie Bucks facilities off campus. Any of the restaurants that are a part of Huskie Bucks, you can click into a search for, and it will take you to that place on the map.”

CORS-TR devrim yaratacak January 2, 2009

Başbakan Erdoğan’a 24 Aralık 2008’de TÜBİTAK Başkanı Nüket Yetiş ile Tapu ve Kadastro (TKGM) Genel Müdürü Zeki Adlı tarafından sunumu yapılan CORS-TR Projesi 1 Mayıs 2009’dan itibaren hizmete giriyor. 81 ilde ve KKTC’nin 61 ilçesinde kurulan 146 istasyonla artık her santimetrekaredeki hareket takip edilecek. 7.5 milyon YTL bütçeli proje, depreme yönelik yer hareketlerinin takibi, TSK’nın güvenlik operasyonları, kadastro haritalarının tamamı, yön bulma, arazi uygulamaları, meteorolojik tahminler gibi konularda devrim niteliğinde yenilikler getiriyor.
ERDOĞAN PROJEYİ BEĞENDİ
CORS-TR’yi İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi geliştirdi. Sistemin kullanıcıları Harita Genel Komutanlığı (HGK), askeri kuruluşlar göz önünde bulundurulduğunda CORS-TR’nin yıllık ekonomik katkısının 200 milyon YTL’nin üzerinde olacağı ifade ediliyor. CORS-TR Erdoğan’a sunulan 100’e yakın proje içinde beğenilenler arasında ilk 3’te yer aldı.
Projenin fikir babası İKÜ İnşaat Mühendisliği öğretim üyesi Prof. Dr. Kamil Eren, “CORS-TR projesinin amacı coğrafi bilgilerin en önemli parçası olan koordinatların ülke genelinde hızlı, ekonomik olarak belirlenmesini sağlamak. Ulusal nitelikteki proje, havada, karada ve denizde kullanılacak” dedi.
TURKCELL’İN GPRS/EDGE SİSTEMİ
Proje, 10 Mart 2005’te TÜBİTAK tarafından onaylandı. 50’ye yakın Türk bilimadamı tarafından geliştirildi. 146 istasyondan elde edilen veriler Türk Telekom ADSL ve Turkcell GPRS/EDGE üzerinden TKGM ve HGK’da bulunan kontrol merkezinde toplanıyor. İstasyonlardan birisi de Kültür Üniversitesi’nin Ataköy Yerleşkesi’nde. (more…)
